On The Tiny Bookcase Podcast, writers are challenged to come up with a short story on a topic and read it themselves. My story was about 'indulgence' in a corrupt, haunted, gritty fantasy city. Other writers include Adrian Tchaikovksy, Anna Smith Spark, and R. J. Barker.

NOVEL
The First Scars is Edge of Tomorrow meets dark fantasy, and was my debut publication. It was longlisted for the prestigious SPFBO (previous winners include M. L. Wang).

SHORT STORY
The Crow Who Burned is a short horror story set in the Irish wilderness long ago, full of dark magic and featuring a fun twist. Read it in the Hiding Under The Leaves folk horror anthology by Slab Press.

THE FIRST SCARS

Epic Dark Fantasy

Dark Fantasy Groundhog's Day/Edge of Tomorrow
Perfect for fans of Steven Erikson, Robin Hobb, and Elden Ring.

The immortal Branded are needed once more; the Druidic Curse has returned to the Fatherland, and an entire city has fallen. The Great One calls for aid, and the devout and desperate come in droves to sear their skin with His mark. A new generation of the Branded is born.

Before resurrection, there must be death.

What makes THE FIRST SCARS compelling is how the magic system - resurrection - shapes the characters and world in visceral, twisty, mysterious ways. The main characters, Niko and Tasha, as well as the rest of the Branded, can resurrect at Nudacha circles upon death.

But this isn't a time-loop story - if one of the Branded dies, the rest must fight on without them until they resurrect. That means every poorly chosen word or missed swing of a sword is consequential. Read on as the Branded battle not just their cursed foes, but their own fracturing order.

In the prequel novella, KILN BEAST, Kataryna and her soldiers - future Branded - fight to return home after a disastrous military campaign. But standing in between Kataryna and her Sophia, are Ruku and Kurasu - themselves future Branded.
