KILN BEAST is the prequel novella to THE FIRST SCARS. The story holds a fiery torch to the dark pasts of two side characters, Kurasu and Zelen, as they fight on the opposite sides of the Chernvodan Conquest. You can read it before or after THE FIRST SCARS, but it's probably better after.
